Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Lima.
We recommend you maximise the time available on your Peruvian adventure by flying directly overnight to Lima.
Day 2: Lima.
On arrival, you'll be transferred to your hotel where you can settle in and freshen up. When you're ready, experience Lima's. It's teeming with cute cafes and art galleries. The city has undergone a gastronomic revolution in recent years, so you can choose between Peruvian classics or innovative fusion food. Don't forget to sample the local cocktail, a pisco sour.
Day 3: Lima - Amazon.
Today, fly to Iquitos. Upon arrival, journey overland to Nauta, where you are met by a river guide. Day 4: Amazon.
In this paradise for birders, where vibrantly coloured macaws may be seen gliding over the river, start your day early on an expert-led birding excursion. View any of the hundreds of amphibians, reptiles and mammals that call the Amazon home. This evening you may opt to set out by skiff for a night safari, watching as your guide shines a light over the ink-black water to reveal the glowing yellow eyes of dozens of caimans and other nocturnal river dwellers.
Day 5: Peruvian Amazon.
This may be the day you spot the Amazon’s fabled pink dolphins or go ashore to visit the residents of a local village to learn about daily life deep in the Amazon. Afterward, relax or perhaps enjoy a swim. Back on your vessel, enjoy lunch before heading out on another river foray or fish for piranha from a skiff, catching (and carefully releasing) one of most dangerous fish in the world. Later, gather for a chat with the guides of your vessel who recount stories of life in the Amazon.
Day 6: Amazon - Cusco - Sacred Valley.
Return to Nauta, bid farewell to your crew and disembark Pure Amazon before making your way to Iquitos to visit a lively market, as well as the Museum of Indigenous Amazonian Cultures. Leaving the rainforest behind, fly back across Peru to the former Inca capital of Cusco and discover the tranquil, grassy wonderland of the Sacred Valley. With its colourful and lively markets, charming flower-filled plains and some of the most impressive historic sites in the country, this Inca hotspot is sure to delight.
Day 7: Urubamba - Machu Picchu.
arrive at the bustling town of Aguas Calientes. Step into another world as you explore the walkways and lookout points of Machu Picchu, the iconic Lost City of the Incas. Our guide will deliver a fascinating history lesson in the world's most unique classroom. Then you're free to explore this magical place, where llamas roam and masterfully cut stones form the stunning citadel.
Day 8: Machu Picchu - Cusco.
Wake up early morning to watch the sun glint over the misty citadel before the crowds arrive. Returning to Cusco by train, take in the picturesque villages and deep gorges flanking the track. And you'll be back in time for another delicious dinner. It's hard to tire of Peruvian cuisine, with its fresh ceviche and unique fusion dishes.
Day 9: Cusco.
Take a tour around Cusco's cobbled streets, with everything a civilised distance from the Plaza de Armas. When you’ve finished posing for photos under the imposing stone archways or relaxing in one of the city’s top-notch eateries, head out to the Inca site of Sacsayhuaman. This ancient site overlooks the city with its impressive giant stones, all cut and placed there by the ancient Incas more than 500 years ago.
Day 10: Cusco - Lima.
Your Inca adventure is over for now as you fly home today via Lima. But Peru is a country that has a way of drawing you back. With so much myth and mystery here we won’t be surprised if we see you back again.
