Kuélap: The Monumental Citadel of the Chachapoya

We will depart from Chachapoyas at 9:30 a.m. and head to Nuevo Tingo, beginning a full day dedicated to discovering the legacy of the Chachapoya civilization. From there, we will board the Kuélap cable car to La Malca Station, taking in the breathtaking landscapes of this remarkable Andean region along the way.

Upon arrival, we will visit the Interpretation Center, where we will learn more about Chachapoya culture, their relationship with the land, and the significance of Kuélap within their sacred landscape. We will then continue on foot to the Kuélap Archaeological Complex, a monumental pre-Inca citadel that preserves the legacy of one of the Andes’ most fascinating civilizations.

Inside the fortress, our guided visit will take us through its main spaces and architectural features, while revealing the meaning behind some of its most important structures. We will also see a replica of a traditional Chachapoya circular dwelling, offering a closer look at how its ancient inhabitants built and lived in this extraordinary place.

After the visit, we will take the cable car back to Nuevo Tingo, where we will enjoy lunch before continuing our journey.

In the afternoon, we will head toward the Utcubamba Valley, where a natural viewpoint will offer views of the Macro archaeological complex. Surrounded by mountains, valleys, and traces of ancient civilizations, we will conclude a day that brings together the history, culture, and landscapes of Amazonas.

Finally, we will return to Chachapoyas at approximately 5:30 p.m.
